From April 2026, Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self-Assessment becomes mandatory for anyone earning over £50,000 through self-employment and/or property. If you’re based in Ealing, Acton, Chiswick or anywhere in West London , this change could affect you.
The threshold will lower over time:
- From April 2027: over £30,000
- From April 2028: over £20,000
So whether you’re a small business owner, landlord, contractor or freelancer, it’s time to prepare.
What’s changing?
- You’ll no longer submit one tax return per year. Instead, you’ll file quarterly updates plus a final annual statement – five digital submissions in total.
- You must use HMRC-approved software to manage your accounts – paper records and HMRC’s free tools won’t be accepted.
- All income and expenses must be recorded digitally.
This may seem daunting, but it’s not all bad news. With the right software and support, it could actually save you time and make the tax process far more efficient.
